Inspired by the concept of lucid dreams, BonBonne Nuit aims to provide comfort and control in a world full of setbacks. The French words "bon bon," meaning candy, and "bonne nuit," meaning good night, come together to form the brand name, reflecting the dream-like nature of the products.
To fully embody the concept, the packaging design utilizes a montage style that brings together surrealistic elements. Each package tells a story suggestive of the desires people often have in their dreams. The conceptual names of the products further trigger imaginative sceneries in customers' minds.
Constructed using Photoshop, the design process involved creating collages of different elements to achieve the desired tone, color, and mixture of images. The result is a visually stunning packaging that captures the essence of lucid dreaming.
BonBonne Nuit offers three pouches, three mini round boxes, and two rectangular handle boxes, each containing various special flavors of sweets. The design specifications include dimensions such as 90mm width, 35mm depth, and 130mm height for Image#1, and 130mm width, 60mm depth, and 105mm height for Image#2-3.
Created and finished in March 2020 in Vancouver, BonBonne Nuit required extensive research to ensure that the design approach effectively evokes the feeling of being the protagonist in a dream. Initially considering illustrations, the designer ultimately chose Photoshop to create collages that allow users to visualize the dream-like scenery.
The design process presented its challenges, with the main hurdle being to create a design that immerses viewers in the dream world solely through the packaging. Through the combination of collaged images and subtle tone and color changes, BonBonne Nuit successfully transports customers to their own imaginative dreamscapes.
